Detailed Information/Report on Activities
We conducted a hybrid program of in-person and online international practical courses supported by the JST Sakura Science Exchange Program.
In-person participants did a collection of marine animals by snorkeling, plankton sampling using the research vessel IBIS II, artificial fertilization and observation of early development of a sea urchin, observation of the bioluminescence of a sea firefly, and group discussion and presentation about marine organisms.
Three foreign and one Japanese guest gave special lectures about marine animal biodiversity. Some parts of the lectures and in-person programs were also broadcast online for participants via Zoom.
Forty-seven foreign students (in person: 15, online: 32) from Bangladesh, India, Viet Nam, and Hong Kong, as well as thirteen Japanese students, took part in this course and learned about the marine environment and biodiversity.
