Detailed Information/Report on Activities
This program aims to raise awareness and develop human resources regarding global health by sending approximately 10 students from Niigata University to the University of Peradeniya for around 10 days during the summer vacation period, and mainly consists of tours to university, hospitals, JICA offices and etc. This project is based on an inter-university exchange agreement and has had 86 participants (79 undergraduate students and 7 graduate students) from 2011 (after being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic) to 2024 (resuming).
However, the following program is currently suspended as of 2024.
This program accepts about 5 students from the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya to the School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Niigata University for approximately 5 months as short-term international students for the purpose of supporting education of individuals who want to become leaders of health sciences in Sri Lanka and who want to take major roles in higher education in global health sciences. This program has been carried out every year since 2011, and approximately 50 students have participated so far. International students can earn credits for “Research & Presentation”, which is equivalent to graduation research at their home university by taking coursework or research work according to their expertise in nursing, radiological technology or medical technology.
This program also aims to foster individuals who will promote friendship between Japan and Sri Lanka by taking Japanese language courses, deepening friendship through exchange activities with Japanese students, and understanding Japanese culture during their stays.
The sufficiently experienced faculty members in international exchange support study and campus life for international students with taking this program as a project based on the inter-university agreement. Then high results of human resource development through study at Niigata University can be expected, such as encouraging the participating students to come back to Japan to go to Graduate School after graduation.
