Detailed Information/Report on Activities

We conducted a hybrid program of in-person and online international practical courses with Asian university students supported by the JST Sakura Science Exchange Program.

This program aims to develop the international human resources in marine science. To understand the marine biodiversity and learn the monitoring techniques on recent environment issues, we did the following practice menu: collection of marine animals by snorkeling, plankton sampling using the research vessel IBIS II, collection and observation of microplastics, and group discussion and presentation about marine organisms.
Three foreign and one Japanese guest researcher gave special lectures about marine organisms. Some parts of the lectures and in-person programs were also broadcast online for participants via Zoom.

Sixty-nine international students (in person: 12, online: 57) from Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Viet Nam, and Hong Kong, as well as six Japanese students, took part in this course.
